Assembling the Gearbox
Stock Differential Parts
The differential is made up of three planetary gears. Tamiya includes the boxwrench and grease. This step can be substituted for an upgraded TA03 differential (part #53267) made up of ball bearings instead of planetary gears.
Gearbox assembly
The assembled differential is then placed into the gearbox.

Before the casing gets mated together, now is your chance to upgrade any nylon bushings (MA9) with friction-free aftermarket ball bearings. There are four nylon and two brass (MA10) bushings that can be replaced.
Mating of the casing halves
A few steps later, the stock RS-540 Mabuchi electric motor is installed.
Installing the stock motor
The rear assembly is complete. The M-04L chassis features a double-wishbone rear suspension. While this isn't exactly the semi-trailing arm suspension of the real thing, it's a working suspension nevertheless. Note the use of CV joints in the drive axles.
